The Worcester Regional Research Bureau serves the public interest of Greater Worcester by conducting independent research and analysis of public policy issues to promote informed public debate and decision-making.

Since 1988, The Research Bureau has celebrated the unsung heroes of public service through the Thomas S. Green Public Service Award. The Thomas S. Green Public Service Awards publicly recognize the extraordinary efforts of individuals across the region who have dedicated their careers and personal lives to our communities. The Thomas S. Green Public Service Awards Committee is now accepting nominations.

This Award is open to all employees from city/town governments, public school districts, and regional agencies who have made outstanding and exemplary contributions to public service in Worcester County, except department or division heads.

Nominees of the Thomas S. Green Public Service Awards must illustrate:

  • Exceptional competence and efficient handling of all assigned responsibilities
  • Enthusiastic performance of tasks above and beyond the call of duty
  • Cooperative, helpful, and friendly attitude toward the public and fellow employees
  • Community involvement outside the scope of job-related responsibilities

We invite you to submit nominations by March 14, 2025. Nomination forms are available on The Research Bureau’s website

Nominations may be submitted electronically through email at or on our website at https://www.wrrb.org/thomas-s-green-public-service-awards/. The nomination form will prompt you with questions regarding the candidate but it is not expected that you will be able to answer all of the questions. Write to your experience with the nominee and why they deserve this recognition. One additional letter of support is required but multiple letters, especially those from multiple perspectives (supervisors, subordinates, population served, etc.) are highly encouraged. Other creative submissions, such as videos, multi-media presentations, etc., are accepted.
