WORCESTER — Following a discussion of two proposals of an ordinance to mandate affordable units in new housing developments, the City Council’s Economic Development Committee voted 2-1 Wednesday to send an amended ordinance to the City Council — one with higher affordability requirements.
The proposed ordinance now goes to the City Council, where it must be approved in a two-thirds vote to be implemented.
The amendment to the ordinance was recommended by at-Large City Councilor and Committee vice-chair Khrystian King. It changed the ordinance to reflect the demands of the Worcester Together Affordable Housing Coalition.
