WORCESTER – District 5 hopefuls Matthew Wally and Paul Franco sparred the most at a debate Thursday night for the City Council district races.
Mr. Franco insisted that homeowners in the city need relief, and said more vulnerable residents won’t be able to afford to live here if Mr. Wally’s desire to gradually close the gap between the residential and commercial tax rates is realized. He said it actually discourages home ownership, and said Worcester already has a relatively high tax rate.
“His plan would make it the highest rate in the state,” Mr. Franco said.
