WORCESTER – The two mayoral candidates squared off in a debate at Mechanics Hall Monday night and predictably offered contrasting views about the state of the city and the direction it is heading.
Incumbent Joseph M. Petty, who is seeking a fourth term, sees the city as moving in the right direction on many fronts, fueled by optimism that residents and outside investors have in the leadership at City Hall.
He said unprecedented outside private investment is helping to rebuild and reshape Worcester’s downtown and strengthen its neighborhoods.
