It has often been said that all politics is local. But you would never know that in Worcester, or many other communities for that matter, where a vast majority of voters seem to have little interest, at most, about their elected local officials.
That was underscored once again Tuesday when only 8.69% of Worcester’s registered voters cast ballots in the preliminary elections for at-large City Council and School Committee. In terms of numbers, that translates into 8,726 of the 100,404 people who were registered to vote in the election.
Such a turnout would fill only about two-thirds of the arena at the DCU Center.
